Hospital Cleaners Join Work Bans

CLEANERS at the Mackay Base Hospital are participating in work bans and are refusing to clean a percentage of the hospital.

The work ban came off the back of a C[pounds sterling]TogetherC[yen] rally which was held outside the hospital last Wednesday to protest against the state government's offer of a 2.5% pay increase over three years for hospital administration staff.

Mackay Health Services District Chief Executive Officer Kerry McGovern said the bans are not affecting patient care at the hospital.

C[pounds sterling]Some Mackay Base Hospital staff are participating in work bans but there has been no impact on patient care,C[yen] Mr McGovern said.

C[pounds sterling]As with other health facilities, members of the district executive team and other staff are volunteering to undertake some key duties such as waste removal, delivering linen and kitchen duties.

C[pounds sterling]Clinical areas such as the operating theatres are being cleaned as usual to ensure optimal patient care. …
