AN 82-year-old man drove into a schoolgirl and accelerated away with her on his bonnet because he was furious his drive had been blocked by a car, a court heard.

Emma Swain was dragged underneath the Mercedes after being struck by Earl Stanley outside his Sutton home, Croydon crown court heard.

The 18-year-old told the court that Stanley sped towards a tree before swerving and accelerating off down the road, forcing her feet to disappear further below the bumper they had become wedged beneath.

Jonathan Edwards, prosecuting, said Miss Swain had earlier been offered a lift home by her schoolfriend Charlie Larkin, who had parked her Ford Fiesta in nearby Barrington Road.

When they returned they discovered a note left by Stanley complaining about irresponsible parking, which he said had blocked his drive and stopped a delivery vehicle accessing the street.

Miss Swain told the court that when she went to Stanley's door to respond he opened it on a chain before slamming it in her face, opening it again fully and barging past her to his car. …
