THE ongoing rejuvenation of Scotswood, Newcastle, took a significant step forward as the New Tyne West Development Company, the private/public venture leading the transformation of the area, submitted detailed plans for the first phase of construction to the city council planning authority. Following consultation events in July and at the beginning of September, the plans represent six months of evolution and give a detailed picture of how the first phase of construction will look.

Around 1,800 new homes will be built over the next 15 years, all of which will be completely bespoke to the development and hugely significant to the region.

The first phase will comprise 377 homes, along with a welcome pavilion, a sales village and an energy centre to provide a lowcarbon, heat and power solution to the homes.

Local councillor and cabinet member for Newcastle City Council, Hazel Stephenson, said: "The submission of the planning application for phase 1 is the culmination of six months' close liaison with residents in Scotswood and Benwell and the Development Company's proposals now meet with a great deal of local support. …
