CONTINUALLY improving standards and increasing numbers saw the 49th annual Warwick Show and Rodeo Prime Beef Hoof and Hook competition produce excellent quality across all classes on the weekend.

The public viewing at John Dee on Saturday presented owners of the prize-winning carcases the opportunity to showcase their talent and provided all entrants with valuable feedback.

John Dee general manager and carcase competition judge Warren Stiff said the quality of this year's entries was outstanding.

C[pounds sterling]The bodies are much better than previous years and we are proud to process this high-quality beef at John Dee,C[yen] he said.

The 129 entrants were judged by a meticulous and detailed process ensuring the best of the best were awarded appropriately.

The champion domestic trade category was won by Margo Hayes, champion heavyweight carcase by Peter and Janelle Cleary, the champion grainfed carcase award went to Lachlan, Benjamin and Jacob Gross while Ian and Simone Tate of Stockanvale Pastoral Company took out the champion local carcase award in classes one and two for the Southern Downs region and Alan and Val Crawford were awarded the most successful exhibitor.

Mr Stiff said cross breeds had become a popular choice as the dominant characteristics of each breed were utilised to produce excellent quality beef. …
