Atkin Rules Bargara Again; Rain Stays Away for Classic Win

EARLY weather predictions had indicated there could be rain for the 2011 Bundaberg Motor Group's Bargara Ladies Classic last week.

But instead there were four days of great weather and that, combined with the top condition of the course, ensured the event was very successful.

It was great to have all the visiting women turn up on Sunday to either play in the mixed event or just renew friendships from previous tournaments.

After the winner Jo-Anne Atkin, of Pacific, spoke so fondly of her 20 years of playing the Classic, it must make it all seem worthwhile for Val Bazley and her team of organisers.

Jo-Anne held off a determined challenge by youngster, Hollie Sinclair from Beerwah to win by two shots to claim the title for a sixth time.

Hollie almost holed out on the 15th when the ball rolled over the hole and finished a metre behind the pin.

Missing the birdie there and a then having the ball horseshoe out for bogey on the next ended her run for the trophy.

It was a great trophy presentation ceremony on Wednesday evening with many of the locals and visitors staying on to congratulate the winners and Brad Solomon, of Bundaberg Motor Group, announced their more than 15-year support of the event would continue next year.

LAST Thursday, the men played a stroke event and the winner was John Bloem who proved he can play golf as well as fish by having a fine 64 net. …
