OLD ACQUAINTANCES I met Janet and John during my time at school, Joining in their adventures, I found them very cool.

At first it wasn''t easy to read all they had to say, But I fared much better with each passing day.

I became quite accomplished so I had to move on, To read more challenging books than Janet and John. Mabel O'' Donnell had shown children a way, How to fill their time on a very boring day.

Her portrayal of two ordinary children having fun, Helped children in the 50s to get their reading done. We lost touch as I grew older but I never forgot, Those books about Janet, John and their dog Spot.

But just the other day we met up once again, Inside a charity shop as I sheltered from the rain. They took pride of place in the window display, Seeing them I felt emotional, I have to say.

Now I have found them, friends we will remain, Sitting on my bookshelf, they will not get lost again. …
