FOR consistent chip shots you should just change your club and not your technique.

I see many people try to change the type of swing they make every time they have a different chip shot to play.

When I chip I always try to use a variety of clubs to chip with rather than changing my technique.

We always face different situations like from the basic lie of the land to the height that we need to carry the ball.

So one simple but very important rule is to always pick the shot which will give you the best chance of getting the ball as near to the hole as possible. In picture one I am faced with the need to play a higher shot into this green so will require a higher lofted club such as a sand wedge or lob wedge.

In picture two I have no object to chip over so here I would choose a nine iron or even an eight iron to let the ball roll to the flag. …
