A NEW "coffee table" book cataloguing the interesting history of a treasured Teesside stately home has been launched.

Wynyard Hall: The History of a Great House by Norma and Haydn Neal and Barbara Leo (Wynyard Hall Publishing, pounds 25 hardback, pounds 15 softback) was introduced at a special book launch at the hotel this week.

VIPs at the occasion included Sir John Hall and his family, who have owned the hall since 1986; the authors of the book who are members of Sedgefield Historic Society and spent 18 months researching and writing it; Raymond Wood, the agent for previous owner Lord Londonderry; and Stockton mayor Councillor Paul Baker. Sir John said: "Buildings such as these need an economic use, if they don't they will go into disrepair.

"My daughter Alison came to me with the idea to convert it into a 4* hotel and it's now become the region's wedding venue with 200 weddings this year, 190 booked for next year and 180 for the year after. …
