WITH reference to all these cutbacks, it is the Government who tells the council to make the cuts, but it is the council who makes the decision as to where the cutbacks will take place.

As Middlesbrough has been identified as a deprived area, this is the last thing we wanted.

The council have known for some time that they have had to tighten their belts (as Mr Mallon says).

Does tightening the belt mean that some councillors got new computers and were they necessary? The chief executive accepted a pay increase, plus there is an assistant chief executive.

Should the chief executive have accepted this pay increase and does this council need an assistant chief executive? The large TV screen outside the town hall costs the council around pounds 8,000-pounds 10,000 to run.

Is this really necessary when it has been said it is being kept on until after the Olympics? These are a few examples of where Middlesbrough Council is wasting money.
