Motivation Puts Teenagers' Life Back on Track

PUT a group of teenage boys in a room with a mechanic, a few tools and a run down motorbike and they are almost guaranteed to be content a at least for a few hours.

But for six adolescent boys at the Lismore PCYC, the Motivational Mechanics course has taught them a lot more than how to get a motor revving again.

aA lot of things in mechanics we can use as analogies on life,a Motivational Mechanics leader Tony Magri explained.

aIt teaches the kids to rely on other people and to ask for help if they need it. If you screw up, it's not a big deal to take a step back and fix the problem.a

The Motivational Mechanics course provides an avenue of learning for young people who maybe unemployed or suffer from a dysfunctional lifestyle.

Some of the participants are young offenders who have been given another chance to get their life back on track.

Six kids participated in the program for the first time last week when they got a defunct motor running again and put the life back into a motorbike. …
