Owners Chalk Up 10 Years; STRANDS OUT: It's Not Hidden, but People Keep Getting Surprised

DESPITE being in the same location on Bay St in Tweed Heads for 35 years, people still walk into Strands hair salon admitting they never knew the salon existed.

But with a huge chalk artwork on the pavement outside for the next two weeks, owners Jeni Harvey and Bronwyn Galante have raised the profile of breast cancer, and their own business.

The pair have owned the salon for the past 10 years and each year have hosted Pink Ribbon Days, Daffodil Days and Salvation Army fundraisers.

Most recently the salon hosted Pink Ribbon Day on Friday with a very pink morning tea raising more than $500.

The chalk art was the work of Murwillumbah artist Amelia Batchelor, Ms Harvey's sister.

aWe've always done Pink Ribbon Day and this year with the chalk art it was even bigger and better,a Ms Galante said.

Ms Galante said there was no special recipe for success, except keeping the service reliable and the customers happy. …
