BILLINGHAM Town blasted into the second round of the FA Vase with a 5-2 thumping of shellshocked South Shields.

Guisborough Town also enjoyed a goal-fest but they must replay after a pulsating 4-4 home draw with Consett in their Vase clash.

Billingham Town romped into an early lead as Jamie Owens drilled home after just six minutes.

There was a setback on 10 minutes as Town defender Chris Dunwell was whisked off to hospital after a head injury.

Town doubled their lead as Owens struck again, then Nicky Martin glanced home a header.

Martin was brought down in the box and Owens sealed his hat-trick from the spot, then Town wrapped it up in the 67th minute through debutant Richie Walker before easing up to allow Shields a couple of face-savers, Morris netting and Benjamin getting a late penalty.

Guisborough three times clawed from behind against Consett, then nudged into the lead in extra-time before being pegged back in a ding-dong battle at the KGV.

Mackay put the visitors ahead after six minutes but Shane Henry quickly squared it.

Walters netted on 40 minutes to nudge Consett back ahead but Chris I'Anson immediately levelled.

The second half was just as hectic with action at either end before Mackay netted late on. It looked as if that may have sealed it but Liam McPhillips got a last-gasp leveller.

Town went ahead in extra-time as McPhillips struck again but with four minutes left Ross netted for Consett. They replay on Wednesday.

Both Teesside outfits went into today's second round draw along with Norton and Synthonia who had byes to this stage.

Both those exempt sides had bad days at the office in the league.

Norton lost fourth spot to their visitors after going down 3-1 at home to Whitley Bay.

The Ancients got off to a sticky start as a shot deflected past keeper James Provett off Chow, then soon after the Bay striker added a second as he nodded home a free-kick. …
