Toowoomba Four Swing in to Knockout Stage of Champs

FOUR Toowoomba golfers will join a host of past Australian Women's Senior Amateur Championship winners when the tournament moves to the knockout stage today.

Sixteen players have qualified from the opening two days of stroke-play at Toowoomba Golf Club to meet in today's opening round of matchplay.

Six-time tournament winner Sylvia Donohoe and 2003 champion Josie Ryan, from the Sunshine Coast's Headland Golf Club, are today's leading qualifiers after shooting 155 in the opening rounds on the par-73 layout.

Joining them in today's sudden-death round will be defending champion Robyn Puckett, who followed up her opening 76 with a disappointing round of 85 yesterday.

The host club will be represented today by Carmel MacDermott (170) and Pam White (173).

City Golf Club pair Margaret Richards and Gaye Pamenter, on 176, also progressed after claiming the final two spots with play-off wins.

Puckett meets White in today's round as she looks to get her title-defence back on track in what is a nostalgic trip to Toowoomba. …
