Versatile Pair Wins Local Level in Song Contest

THE freedom and story-telling nature of folk music makes Stephen Shravemade and Will Lutton happy to be where they are.

The two thirty-something Rockhampton mates jam together as Happy to be Here and play music afor the benefit of playing musica; incorporating different instruments into their original songs and recording them for fun.

With little public performance experience, they decided to enter one of their songs in the Our Backyard competition, a national songwriting opportunity for local people to tell stories about their backyard. It is run by Australian musician Chloe Hall and is an initiative of the Federal Government.

Stephen and Will won the Rockhampton regional round with their song, Time Goes By, which Stephen said was a reflection of someone's life.

They won the chance to perform alongside national artists Chole & Silas at Rockhampton's Fitzroy Motor Boat Club on Sunday, and with local musician Andy Redfern. …
