Pardew Is Homing in on Cup Progress

ALAN PARDEW feels it is "advantage Blackburn" tonight in the Carling Cup fourth round.

But he believes the prize on offer to Newcastle United can inspire his in-form side to overcome the threat of Steve Kean's Premier League strugglers.

The sight of a full house in the quarter-finals at St James' Park for Pardew's troops - with the possibility of earning a two-legged crack at Wembley in the semis - is very much up for grabs in the eyes of the one-time Crystal Palace FA Cup finalist.

Pardew joked that the League Cup has never been kind to him, even in bygone days when the man of the match won a TV set courtesy of then sponsors Rumbelows, another prize that evaded him in his playing career.

But he hopes his team are switched on at Ewood Park tonight in order to be in the hat for the last eight.

It is a competition in which United have never enjoyed the best of nights, with the League Cup the only domestic trophy the Magpies have failed to win.
