WITH storm season upon us, it's important for all residents to prepare and protect their family, home, community and themselves from hazards.

aBy taking a few simple steps like trimming overhanging tree branches, cleaning gutters, securing loose outdoor objects and preparing a storm kit including a torch and battery operated radio, people will have the best possible chance of staying safe when severe weather hits,a Energex's Mike Swanston said.

Mr Swanston said loose items such as umbrellas, garden debris, garden tools and outdoor toys should be secured beforehand.

aItems such as outdoor furniture could become dangerous missiles when left outside during high winds, so where possible store these safely in a secure place,a he said. …
