Wishing and Hoping in Sara's Memory; Dreaming of Giving Yet More Families a Break

THEY have made wishes come true for dozens of families since their retreat opened in Crete this summer.

But already members of Sara's Hope Foundation are starting their fundraising campaign to send even more families next year.

To help with their fundraising they are calling on Chronicle readers to support them through their Wish campaign this year in the hope an extra cash injection will make another family's wish come true.

Once again the Chronicle are giving worthy causes in the region the opportunity to get their hands on a share of our pounds 50,000 cash prize through our Wish campaign.

This year we have a staggering 275 organisations from the North East registered on our Wish list, and they are all desperate to land the biggest slice of the dosh up for grabs.

And as readers you can help your chosen group with their token collecting mission by cutting out those elusive tokens from your Chronicle and posting it to the organisation. The more tokens groups collect the bigger their slice of the cash prize.

Sara's Hope Foundation are just one of the organisations taking part in Wish hoping to top what they received last year.

The charity walked away with pounds 350.49 after collecting an impressive 24,170 tokens.

The money they received went towards flights to Sara''s retreat in Crete for children living with cancer and their families.

They believe the Wish money alone funded one return flight for one of the families they supported this year.

The charity was set up after Sara Hoburn, of Whitley Bay in North Tyneside, lost a two-year battle with cancer at the age of 16 in 2001.

She was nicknamed their 'smiling star' by staff at the Teenage Cancer Unit in Newcastle's RVI for her upbeat attitude and caring nature towards others.

Her dream was to help other sick children lead normal family lives.

She is the inspiration behind Sara's Hope Foundation, which opened a holiday retreat in Crete offering respite for youngsters with cancer. …
