COFFS Harbour City Council has adopted an amendment to the city's local environmental plan which will clear the way for the development of a permanent settlement at the Bonville Golf Resort.

In conjunction with the city's Residential Tourist Lands Development Control Plan, also adopted on Thursday by the council, the move will see the owner of the Bonville resort, Peter Montgomery, able to add medium- and low-density housing and a neighbourhood shopping and service centre to the existing resort, which includes 30 accommodation units, a golf course, clubhouse and function centre, tennis courts and other facilities.

The planning changes and the development of infrastructure will pave the way for further development of Bonville, which was included as future urban land in Coffs Harbour City Council's Our Living City Settlement Strategy.

Councillors voted in favour of the step to progress towards the development in spite of two impassioned speeches against the development by Bonville residents Rod Lynn and David Ham, which was followed with talks in favour of the development by the general manager of Bonville Golf Resort, Brad Daymond, and Mr Montgomery. …
