Cuggy Is Cautious over Cup Derby Tie

Droylsden ...................................... 0 Blyth Spartans .............................. 0 BLYTH boss Steve Cuggy has welcomed the chance for a local derby against Gateshead in the FA Cup first round proper but that will mean nothing if they don't finish Droylsden off.

A bumper gate at Croft Park could be the scene should Spartans take care of business in their fourth qualifying round replay but as Cuggy states that will be all ifs and buts if Blyth don't make the tie against their North East rivals a reality.

He said: "The draw looks good but right now it means nothing to us unless we win our replay on Tuesday night.

"It is a great tie in prospect and I'm sure there will be plenty of interest but first things first. Droylsden have to be beaten.

"But the draw itself gives us all a huge incentive to win on Tuesday and that applies to some more than others.

"Five of our players used to play for Gateshead - Phil Cave, Carl Jones, Richard Offiong, Graeme Armstrong and Wayne Phillips all used to play for them and already there's been a few text messages flying around.

"Hopefully, with a huge crowd at Croft Park, we can put in a performance to make this tie a very real prospect."

Coming off the back of a poor league defeat at Gloucester City, Blyth were up against it early on with keeper David Knight twice saving from Carlos Logan and Ciaran Kilheeney. …
