THANKFULLY the weekend was fine for the single-handed regatta on the Clarence and a huge number of boats, 33 in all from many classes, appeared from as far away as Gosford and Brisbane.

So many, if fact, that they were split into three divisions and sent on their way.

The first race was sailed in a light easterly and many boats had trouble with the out-flowing tide, which at times was beating the wind for speed.

But the wind strengthened for the second and third races, until it became a hard workout for some of the younger and the older competitors, and most sailors were glad to get back to the club for the evening meal.

Sunday's races had light winds again to start with at about 10am but the stronger breeze built again for the following two races to become a challenging but enjoyable ride.

There was only one broken mast recorded for the weekend and the regatta wound up at mid-afternoon with a presentation of prizes for the best of the divisions. …
