GLADSTONE'S Ferguson Park racecourse is the place to be today to soak-up the atmosphere associated with the running of the race that stops a nation Co the 2011 Melbourne Cup.

It promises to be a huge day trackside where the gates will open early so punters and racegoers can bet on the morning races at Flemington as well as at Ferguson Park.

This year the Gladstone races on Cup Day feature the best fields for years with a five-race program due to start at 10.30am which means horses and their connections will be required to arrive trackside before 9am.

The races will be run every 30 minutes so jockeys can travel back to Rockhampton for a very light card of four races at Callaghan Park racecourse.

The Gladstone Turf Club and the Rockhampton Jockey Club have worked together so the first race in Rockhampton will start at 2.25pm.

As usual a strong line-up of bookmakers will be in operation in the undercover betting ring at Ferguson Park providing patrons the best of odds on the three state races at Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. …
