DURING a record-breaking day of births at Coffs Harbour Base Hospital, one of the 11 deliveries last Friday was more dramatic than the others.

A Sawtell couple will flinch every time they drive across those speed humps on the hospital access road, remembering how their second baby was born en route to the maternity ward.

After a 13-hour labour for their first child, Finley, 2, Cherie Rose and Angus Stewart left home three hours after labour began.

Two large contractions between their home and the hospital took their breath away, then a third as they waited at the traffic lights had them on edge.

Maternity staff arrived with a wheelchair at the side within seconds of the excited dad calling them on the intercom. …
