IT'S encouraging to see that Harry Redknapp is in good spirits after his operation earlier this week to have stents inserted to clear two blocked arteries in his heart.

I haven't spoken to Harry about his problem but I had a similar procedure myself back in 2009, when I had two stents put in an artery.

It's a routine operation carried out under local anaesthetic but the stories suggesting that Harry would be back at work this weekend for the game against Fulham were well wide of the mark.

I was absolutely knackered for a few days after I had the operation and altogether it took me a couple of weeks before I was ready to go back.

I was manager at Blackburn at the time and, after the operation, my cardiologist laid it on the line.

He said: "You don't go to the next game, you don't even follow the game on the TV or radio, just wait until it's over before you check on the result. …
