GREG Norman doesn't believe Adam Scott should sack embattled caddie Steve Williams because of his racial comment about former employer Tiger Woods.

Scott arrived in Sydney yesterday for this week's Australian Open under pressure to fire or suspend Williams, who caused a storm when he referred to Woods as a C[pounds sterling]black a***holeC[yen] while addressing a caddies' awards party in Shanghai at the weekend.

But Norman, who had Williams on his bag for several years at the height of his career, said the New Zealand caddie needed to be cut some slack.

The former world No.1 said Williams had been foolish to believe his provocative remark about Woods wouldn't become big news, given his acrimonious split earlier this year from the 14-time major champion.

But asked if Scott should sack Williams, Norman said no.
