TOUCH OF STAR POWER; Gympie Gets Early Boost from Wallaby Star's Visit

TOUCH: A TEAM of 12 touch football players from St Pat-rick's Primary School overcame scorching heat and intense competition at the weekend to make the finals of the Queensland Primary All Schools Championships at Cleveland.

About 120 teams in girls, boys and mixed divisions in the under-12 age group, from all over the state, competed throughout the weekend at the Redland Showgrounds.

St Patrick's was the only Gympie school represented and moved through the first day of competition undefeated, qualifying for the championship play-offs on Sunday.

The students' spirits and motivation were given a boost right before their first game on Saturday morning when injured Wallaby and Queensland Reds' playmaker Quade Cooper hobbled over to say hello, despite being on crutches and with his knee in a large brace after a reconstructive surgery.

Cooper was at the ground to watch his young cousin, who was competing in the competition for another school. …
