GOVERNOR of Queensland Penelope Wensley and Mackay Mayor Col Meng sipped water simultaneously, moments after cutting the ribbon to officially open the Nebo Road Water Treatment Plant.

The water plant was commissioned in May, but yesterday Her Excellency was in Mackay to officially declare the $26million upgrade open.

Ms Wensley said although water treatment was by no means glamorous it was critical, and the upgraded plant had given residents and industry certainty about the region's water supply for the next decade.

C[pounds sterling]I think people who work in engineering and construction generally are under appreciated... it's not a glamorous or romantic thing Co you don't write poetry about water treatment plants Co but it is so fundamentally important and I'm so extremely impressed with this plant,C[yen] she said.
