The data

The data covers Gladstone harbour and an area outside it.

In 2009, net fishing accounted for 125 tonnes, crab fishing - 97 tonnes and trawl - 171 tonnes. Total value: $4.0 million

2010: Net fishing Co 334 tonnes. Crab Co 133 tonnes. Trawl Co 171 tonnes. $3.6 M.

2011 (up till Oct 18): Net fishing Co 479 tonne. Crab Co 89 tonnes. Trawl Co 120 tonnes. $4.5 M

THE dispute between Gladstone Ports Corporation and commercial fishermen has taken an explosive turn.

GPC has released data from Fisheries Queensland which shows the value of seafood caught in the Gladstone area this year. GPC says the figures show that commercial fishermen's catches this year have not deteriorated from previous years.

The figures show that this year, 479 tonnes of seafood have been caught in the area, compared with 334 tonnes during all of last year. That data is heavily influenced by the barramundi which spilt over Awoonga Dam. …
