FORMER Middlesbrough and Darlington manager Colin Todd has moved to cool speculation linking him to the vacant managerial position at Berwick.

Todd, who also has had spells in charge at Bolton, Swindon, Bradford, Danish side Randers and Derby - as well as playing for the latter, Sunderland and 27 times for England - has been out of football since his departure from Darlington in 2009.

However, he says the recent speculation is merely a case of someone putting two and two together and coming up with five.

He said: "I think I know how this story came about.

"My grandson was playing for his school's rugby team and I travelled up to the North East to watch him.

"They were at Hexham first and then they played a match in Berwick.

" I was spotted in Berwick and somebody has thought my being there it was in connection with the job when it was not."

Other contenders believed to be interested in the position thought are former Rangers player David Smith, who managed Berwick between 1976-80, ex-Falkirk player Neil Oliver, Vale of Leithen boss Robbie Horn and ex-Dundee United and Partick Thistle manager, Ian McCall. …
