Article excerpt

MARSKE snatched a dramatic 4-3 victory in a ding-dong finale to their game at South Shields.

The Seasiders clawed back from two down to take control of the basement battle then almost let it slip again in stoppage time before a late, late winner saved the day.

Marske trailed by two goals midway through the first half after Feasey and Wightman netted.

But they rallied and levelled before the break with a quickfire double as Adam Wheatley cracked in a freekick then John Burton got a second. The second half looked to be fizzling out into a draw but with a minute to go Derek Bradley put the ball into the box for Karl Charlton to force home what looked to have been the winner - then in stoppage time South Shields clawed an equaliser as Barclay headed in.

Then four minutes into added time Anthony Ormerod cut through the Shields defence to tee up Charlton to stab in the winner.

The victory hauled Marske above Shields to sixth-bottom and four points clear of the drop spots.

The Priorymen, who almost had their power cut off this week over an unpaid electric bill, were boosted by a healthy crowd but faced a struggle after Owen poked home a rebound off the post before the break.

Town bossed the second half and had one ruled out for offside but could not fashion an equaliser.

Town stay third bottom but have a lot of games in hand on the rest of the strugglers (see table on Page 8).

Billingham Town remain dangling just above the relegation places after they leaked a late goal in a 2-1 defeat at home to West Auckland. …
