Music Students Hit All the Right Notes on New CD

THIS year's TAFE CD is fabulous. There is a mix of reggae, jazz, country and pop sounds, and when you realise all tracks have been written by music students, it gets just a little bit better.

My review of the 13 tracks on the album, which is available at the Grafton TAFE campus.

Under My Skin a Madison Crisp

The opening track has a nice poppy guitar sound, which has some reggae influence, that makes you want to smile, and a sultry voice that makes you want to get to know the person behind it.

The lyrics on this track are catchy, however, they are a little simple at times, and a little too predictable, but the way they are articulated lets you overlook that.

Embaixu De Belo Ceu a Grant Lawless

A skilled guitar picking style of playing is on full display, as are some emotion-filled lyrics. The track gets a little repetitive at times, but the beat keeps you engaged. There is some tribal drumming thrown in, and you will catch yourself singing along in a completely different language.

Community a Heart Tribe

Another reggae track where the vocalist slips between a reggae style of delivery and Australian spoken accent which seems to be a little more natural. The beat is funky and sway inducing.

Time Yet a Heart Tribe

This fast and fun track is super funky, however, the lyrics are a little difficult to understand at times and it unfortunately results in it feeling like a wall of sound that washes over you.

Angles Thing a James Dempsey and Len E Johnson

This track has a beautiful jazzy feel that takes you on a journey through its different light and dark phases. Beautiful sax, bass and piano and the skills of these musicians are most definitely shown off.

A pub rock tune with an underlying country style combined with husky vocals results in Grabbed From Behind. …
