Surf Club Well Set for Busy Summer

PREPARATIONS for a long hot summer are well under way at Yamba Surf Life Saving Club, including recruitment and training of new volunteers.

aWe certainly have enough volunteers to guarantee patrols this year, but we are always open to new members,a surf club president Alan Schofield said.

aWe can always do with more senior members, it lightens the load on everyone else.

Training of new members is under way, but it is never too late to come down to the club to sign up.

aThere is always someone here to welcome you in and give you any help you need,a Mr Schofield said.

Volunteers build up their skills and fitness until they are ready to go through a proficiency test.

The second proficiency day of the season was held last Sunday and the third is scheduled for December 11.

Prospective life savers have their first aid and resuscitation skills put to the test. They also have to prove their fitness through a a[approximately]run-swim-run' test. …
