Article excerpt

TALENTED young Teessiders will be stepping out in a spectacular Disney classic at Middlesbrough Theatre next week.

Middlesbrough Youth Theatre take to the stage from Tuesday with Beauty And The Beast, which runs until Saturday, November 26.

The show will feature a cast of around 70 who will sing and dance their way through this well loved story.

It will also include colourful scenery, lavish costumes and a full professional orchestra.

The part of the Beast is played by Cayvan Coates; Belle by Eleanor McGlade and Gaston by Nathan Leonard.

The show has been directed by Ray Burton with choreography by Wendy Lowe and musical director is Steve Catchpole.

The story tells the tale of a young prince lived in a shining castle.

Although he had everything his heart desired, the prince was spoiled, selfish and unkind.

One winter night an old beggar woman comes to the castle and offers him a single rose in return for shelter from the bitter cold.

Repulsed by her haggard appearance, the prince sneers at the gift and turns the old woman away.

She warns him not to be deceived by appearances for beauty is found within; but when he dismissed her again, the old woman's ugliness melts away to reveal a beautiful enchantress.

As punishment she transforms him into a hideous beast and places a powerful spell on the castle and all who lived there. The only way to break the spell is for the beast to learn to love another and earn her love in return by the time the last petal of the enchanted rose falls.

Tickets are pounds 12, concessions pounds 10.50, first night seats pounds 10 and family ticket pounds 39.

Performances are 7.15pm Tuesday to Friday and 6pm on Saturday, November 26. Details on 01642 815181.
