ANTHONY Wall just out-kicked Kelsey Wilkes in the final dash for the line at Trenayr in Grafton Cycle Club racing last Saturday.

Wall and Wilkes were part of a large two-and-a-half-minute bunch also containing the third place-getter Mal Tilse.

Tilse's presence in the bunch was to prove pivotal.

He was the driving force, the wise old head and the strong lead-out man for the final uphill push to the line.

Ian Lavery and Owen Turner, also part of the same big bunch, filled fourth and fifth.

Even though Tilse was able to control the pace and organise the young charges, Wall and Wilkes still had to push their pedals, and the finish was a credit to both young riders, with Wall just getting the points this time.

The limit and second limit bunches of Peter Moran, Rosemary Brinkworth, Narelle Tilse, Liz Wilkes and Anita Salvestro had been caught by the Mal Tilse bunch by a little after half-way.

Further back, the scratch bunch of Dion Wilkes, Aaron Watts, Garry Reardon, Mark Gilmore, Zac McKenzie, Lachlan O'Reilly and Brady Ingram was making a job of catching the John Harrison-led ablocka group. …
