WALLSEND were celebrating a winning double in the Brampton to Carlisle 10-mile road race when Aldershotbased Danielle Hodgkinson timed her run to perfection to win the women's race by over a minute.

Hodgkinson ran a personal best of 58:33 to see off club-mate Stacey Rogers and Chester-le-Street's Claire Simpson - who also recorded PBs - before returning south to continue her Army duties.

"I knew it would be a very fast start at Brampton seeing that the start was on the brow of a hill, so I was determined to start steady," she said.

"I may have been over cautious but I didn't get to the front until around the six-mile point after reeling in Stacey and Claire.

"Running in a massed start event means you have plenty of company throughout and after taking the lead I managed to get into a good rhythm running with a group of men. …
