STAFF from the North East's biggest building society have been taking a break and putting the kettle on - all in the name of charity.

Employees from across Newcastle Building Society's 30-strong branch network, as well as from its Portland House and Cobalt Business Park head offices, took part in the World's Biggest Coffee Morning to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

And having already raised more than pounds 15,000 for Macmillan since it was adopted by the Newcastle's staff as their dedicated charity in April this year, the team's coffee drinking and cake eating exploits have added a further pounds 1,121 to the running total.

The money was raised through the sale of cakes, as well as through participants paying to 'dress down' for the day, and donations from customers coming into their local branches also adding to the pot.

NBS is the longest running business supporter of the Macmillan Coffee Morning in the Tyneside area having hosted the event since 2005, raising almost pounds 5,500. …
