IT WAS another big week for whiting, in fact it seemed like every fish caught was a whiting, and let me tell you there were a number of big ones in the mix.

Paul Hope of Boambee came up with the winning fish at 665g and that's getting into the area of the old a[approximately]elbow slapper'. An a[approximately]elbow slapper' is a fish that when gripped around the gills, or throat, the tail gives your elbow a good slapping. It's good to see the run of whiting, let's see if they hang around after this blow.

Ron Ulrick managed to get to sea last week and returned with a very nice snapper. The big nobbie topped the scales at 7.35kg. Very nice on the barbie at that size.

Andrew Mauger of Coffs fished at the a[approximately]Tanks' to land the week's biggest flathead. Now I'm at a loss to explain just where the a[approximately]Tanks' are. If we were down Newcastle way it could refer to a brace of Sherman DD tanks that sunk in Stockton Bight and now work as FADs, but around Coffs, no idea. …
