A MOTHER of three was jailed yesterday for taking advantage of the generosity of a car crash victim she was caring for to feed a drug habit.

Anne Maria Horvat, 44, used the man's bank card to make 41 unauthorised withdrawals, about $1000 a day over two months in 2009, without his knowledge.

She was jailed for two years, suspended after she has served nine months, after pleading guilty in Maroochydore District Court.

Crown prosecutor Alex Stark said she had exploited a vulnerable victim, mostly to feed a speed and cannabis habit, after asking him to move to her Golden Beach unit.

He said the victim gave his card to Horvat to withdraw money for him but she usually returned it to him with the money.

But Mr Stark said she one day told him the machine ate his card after she used the wrong PIN to cover up the withdrawal of $39,420.

He said she did continue to pay for the man's food, alcohol and other expenses and the man did benefit from some of the drugs Horvat purchased with the stolen money. …
