Festivals Set to Grow Next Year

SOME of the best community-based events are going to be bigger and better next year thanks to the Hervey Bay Council for the Arts (HBCA).

The Easter Festival, the Queensland Day Festival, the Youth Christmas Concert, the New Year's Eve Family Festival, Seniors Got Talent and the Youth Talent Quest are just a handful of the festivals and events organised by the HBCA each year.

Kerrie Marshall, president of the HBCA, said the events were all staged with absolutely no budget and yet were all growing and attracting attention from throughout the state.

Ms Marshall was happy to break down the costs of each event the HBCA ran, as the organisation relied on fundraising, sponsorship and grants from local and state government, meaning transparency and goodwill were vital in securing ongoing support to grow the events.

For example, the annual Seniors Got Talent event made less than $2000 this year, with half of the $5 entry tickets to the show going to the Hervey Bay RSL who host it. …
