KARATE: Kyokushin Karate CQ recently had a very special guest.

The Wood St dojo was honoured when Kenichi Nagasaki attended a recent grading for its students.

Sempai (which is Japanese for teacher) Nagasaki is a second dan black belt and has fought in the World Kyokushin Karate Championships.

aHe's an instructor at the Honbu in Tokyo,a Sheryl Brown said.

aThe Honbu is the World Headquarters for Kyokushin Karate and to have an instructor from there visit our dojo was a great honour.

aNot very many people ever get to be an instructor at such a high level.a

Brown is a first dan black belt and teacher at Kyokyshin Karate.

Sempai Nagasaki lead the group of 16 students in the grading.

Brown said his presence was inspiring as all the students were in awe of his skill and ability. All 16 passed to their next Kyu (level).

aThey've all worked really hard to get where they are and it's a good way to end the year,a she said.

The students were required to perform a range of skills and techniques with the higher level students also required to have several hard fights Brown said. …
