Sea What We Can Do. Gotta Hand It to Promenade Art Kids

IT'S going to be their seafront - and artistic Redcar youngsters are making their mark on it.

Sculptor Ian Randall has been commissioned to produce two sculptures and new promenade paving as part of the pounds 30m seafront revamp.

And to encourage young people to take ownership of their new-look seafront, some of their artistic ideas are being included in it.

Local schoolchildren and residents will get the chance to influence the creations with further workshops being held in the New Year.

Among the first to put forward their ideas were children from Redcar's oldest school - Zetland Primary.

They were asked to bring in an image that meant a lot to them. Those images may then be included in the overall seafront work.

Amber Lidell, 10, chose a fish "because it reminds me of the seaside" while Ryley Barnes, nine, suggested a medal his nursing nana had won. Shauna Barnett, 11, chose a shoe - "I love shoes," she wrote - while Olivia Brown, nine, chose a silver peacock brooch "because it's a memory of my great grandma. …
