TONY MOWBRAY has cautioned his Boro players against picking up cheap yellow cards as he strives to keep his squad at full strength. Mowbray has long stressed that he is wringing every last drop out of the thin resources at his disposal as he keeps Boro in play-off contention at the top of the Championship.

And he does not want avoidable bookings to tot up and turn into suspensions at a hectic time of the season which could prove critical to his side's Premier League aspirations.

Teenage full-back Joe Bennett and holding midfielder Nicky Bailey are both one yellow away from a ban, while Bennett and Tony McMahon have both been sent off this season and Barry Robson has served a one-match suspension.

"We do talk to them (the players) about not getting cheap yellow cards and they are very aware of that," Mowbray said.

"We do need everybody and we need to keep going. We will pick up injuries during the winter period, I'm sure, but we don't need to lose yellow cards to things like dissent and we've got to be mindful of not doing stupid things on the pitch to pick up silly yellow cards. …
