PROUD Ipswich man Rodney Axelsen has been fixing big mining trucks and dozers six days a week since 1961, and he still isn't ready to throw in the towel.

In a feat that would have to be considered rare by today's standards, the 63-year-old dad will mark his 50th year working at the same Raceview workplace on Monday.

It's not just the quantity of the work Mr Axelsen has done over the past half century, but the quality which has ensured the longevity of his career as a fitter and turner.

Mr Axelsen wasted no time working out what he wanted to do in life, starting his five-year apprenticeship at the age of 13.

aI finished my scholarship on the Wednesday and started work on the Monday a so at least I had a weekend off first,a Mr Axelsen said.
