I HAD the opportunity to attend the meeting at the Southlands Centre about its upcoming closure due to so-called cuts we are having to make.

The information that got my back up which no one else has mentioned and was actually mentioned by Mr Mallon himself was of a high-spec sports village being built at Prissick Base at a cost of pounds 6-7million which was being funded by investors through Tennis World which was closing and also through sales from the closure of Clairville Stadium.

I myself thought the closures of these places were to be made to help ease the debt that we had created not to plough into a sports village where a lot of people won't be able to get to, let alone be able to afford to use the facilities.

This to me means that the Southlands closing is inevitable as it is in a prime location for a lot of people and it offers a lot of affordable activities for a variety of people from all walks of life. …
