4 Riding in Car Held in Robbery; Suspects Are Linked to More Holdups on the Westside

Four people who were stopped leaving a robbery scene Tuesday have been tied to holdups at a half-dozen Westside Jacksonville businesses, police said Thursday.

The four, ages 16 to 26, were riding together in a vehicle police stopped near the Family Dollar at 5714 Timuquana Road, according to the Sheriff's Office. Two men had just robbed the store at gunpoint, and police took everyone in the vehicle into custody, police said.

All four were charged with that holdup, police records indicated.

Police said investigators later concluded the men were involved in another Family Dollar robbery at 8566 103rd St., as well as a Hess station at 6010 103rd St. and Kangaroo gas stations at 4152 Old Middleburg Road, 4856 Park St. and 6003 Roosevelt Blvd.

Police records said investigators charged Da-Shawn O. Dunnam, 16, with armed robbery; Don V. Flanders, 26, with three armed holdups; Brandon Powell, 18, two counts of armed robbery, and Brian D. Yarbrough, 19, with one count.

WOMAN DIES WHEN HER TRUCK STRIKES ANOTHER

A Palm Coast woman was killed Thursday when her pickup truck veered into the path of another pickup near Bunnell, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Kristen Elaine Westbrook, 29, was driving west on Florida 100 near Deen Road when she lost control of her Dodge about 9:30 a.m., the Highway Patrol said. The truck crossed into eastbound traffic and collided with a Ford driven by Timothy Lee Gould, 38, of Bunnell.

Westbrook died at a hospital, the Highway Patrol said. Gould and a passenger, Alan Chase, 28, of Bunnell, had minor injuries, the report said. Westbrook was the only one not wearing a seat belt.

CAR RUNS INTO THE BACK OF A SEMI, KILLING MAN

A Flagler Beach man was killed Wednesday night when his car struck the back of a semi on Interstate 95.

David A. Adorante, 50, was headed south about 9:20 p.m. and drove up quickly on the semi near the Matanzas Woods Parkway Overpass in Flagler County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The Nissan 350Z Adorante was driving overturned in the collision. He was wearing his seat belt. …
