Tourist numbers in the doldrums
OCCUPANCY rates for Fraser Coast hotels, motels and guest houses are still below 50%, new figures have shown.
A quarterly Tourism Queensland report on tourism accommodation data showed the number of establishments had dropped by 4.1%, compared to a drop of 6.3% in the previous report.
Takings for accommodation establishments on the Fraser Coast were $36 million in the year ending June 2011, down by more than 4%.
Tourism Queensland said in the report that the poor figures were a result of declines in international visitor numbers, especially from the United Kingdom and Europe.

Brekkie van finds sentimental home
A VAN which has supplied hundreds of the region's homeless with a hearty breakfast will be donated to the Hervey Bay Historical Museum later this week.
The well-loved We Care 2 blue van was replaced by a better equipped vehicle two months ago, but volunteers were reluctant for it to just rot away.
Before being donated to the charity organisation the van was used for many years by Hervey Bay's scouts.
Pastor Robert Geluk will hand the van over to the museum in Zephyr St at 9. …
