MAGISTRATES on Teesside have been investigated for alleged racist remarks, bullying and inappropriate behaviour in court, it has been revealed.

One even failed to tell bosses they were the subject of a criminal investigation.

The Office for Judicial Complaints (OJC) has released the files on cases of local Justices of the Peace being accused of falling foul of the rule book following a Freedom of Information request.

A JP at Teesside Magistrates' Court, in Middlesbrough's Centre Square, was given a formal warning after not disclosing to bosses they were being investigated for a crime.

Magistrates have also been investigated for racist remarks, bullying, "inappropriate behaviour unconnected with office as a JP" and inappropriate behaviour in court.

The five magistrates accused of "inappropriate behaviour unconnected with office" had their cases dismissed, as did the Hartlepool JP who had a complaint made against them for inappropriate behaviour in court. …
