FALSE teeth, a clarinet and surfboards are among the weird and wonderful items that have been left behind by passengers on Sunshine Coast buses.

The unusual items have contributed to a long list of lost property handed in to south-east Queensland bus operators, including $25,000 worth of mobile phones every month.

The lost property cupboards are likely to fill fast over the next month because of an expected increase in passenger numbers over the Christmas and school holiday period.

Transit authority TransLink has asked passengers to mind their belongings and leave with everything they take aboard.

The Sunbus lost property cupboard currently includes a leather jacket, 30 or 40 mobile phones, and about a dozen black umbrellas.

Sunbus spokeswoman Jane Robinson said it was difficult to understand how some things, such as the false teeth (which, incidentally, were claimed) were left on the buses.
