HIRST Park Trout Ticklers have been awarded pounds 2,800 by the Sir James Knott Trust. The club will use the money to train two more people as level one fishing coaches and one at level two.

The money will also be used to buy 10 flotation vests, wading sticks - as the children are now being taken river fishing - and 10 fly and spinning rods.

In addition to teaching children fly-tying throughout the closed season - taking them reservoir and salmon fishing for a few regular members - the grant will allow the club to introduce more children to angling. Anglers who braved the wintry conditions at Chatton were rewarded with good sport, mainly on lures.

Robbie Bell from Berwick caught 14, Ali Tait from Morpeth 13 and Peter Price from Pegswood kept three and returned eight.

Trevor Wadds from Craster caught 11 and Tommy Young from Ashington caught eight. The fishery will be closed on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. …
