GATTON'S Andrew Dodt faces a testing round today to stay in contention for the $1 million Australian Masters after finishing well off the pace at the end of yesterday's day-one play.

Dodt fired an opening three-over-par 74 a including a double bogey on the par five ninth a at Victoria Golf Club.

Dodt's mixed start leaves him in a tie for 74th spot and in need of a sub-par round this afternoon to make the half-way cut.

Toowoomba professional Ian Esson similarly needs a strong second-day performance to remain in the tournament after firing an opening 75.

Unheralded but unfazed, local pro Ashley Hall led the best in the world early in the day as he skipped to an impressive opening. …
