A SEWAGE spill at Caloundra has cost Michael McNamara thousands of dollars in lost business.

The owner of Bill's Boat Hire at Golden Beach was forced to close his business on Wednesday and again yesterday following a sewage overflow on Wednesday morning.

Sewage flowed into a small creek next to the Short St boat ramp and both Golden Beach and Bulcock beaches had ado not swima signs erected once Unitywater discovered the problem.

aAs long as those signs remain up, we won't be hiring out boats,a Mr McNamara said.

aIt could be putting us at risk.a

Mr McNamara said lost business equated to about $1000 a day.

aThis is a make or break situation at this time of year, and essentially we're closing in the first week of the school holidays,a Mr McNamara said.

aBy this time (of year) you're getting pretty skinny on the money again a we heavily rely on this season.
